The Sydney Flames welcomes Issy Morgan back to her hometown, signing her on a two-year deal, the first year as a Development Player before being elevated to the full roster in WNBL27 under a mutual option.
The 5’10” guard returns to Sydney following a standout college career at Davidson College in the United States, where she was a consistent starter and finished her senior year averaging 9.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. She also earned A-10 All-Conference Third Team honours.
Morgan, 22 - a product of the NSW junior pathway and Future Flames - represented Australia at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup, where her teammates included current Flame Shaneice Swain and several other WNBL young stars.
“A dream come true”
For Morgan, pulling on a Flames jersey is the realisation of a childhood dream.
“It is such an exciting step in my basketball career, especially having grown up in Sydney watching this team from a young age,” she says.
“I love Guy’s philosophy and am so excited to be working with and learning from him and all the other coaches. I’m pumped to be alongside some incredible teammates I grew up watching, and I know there’s so much I can learn from them to grow as a player and a teammate.
“I’m looking forward to throwing myself into everything and seeing what we can accomplish this year.”
High work rate, high ceiling
Sydney Flames’ Head Coach Guy Molloy said Morgan’s return is a big boost for the program.
“I am thrilled to bring Issy Morgan home to Sydney and into the Flames’ roster for the next two seasons,” he says. “We prize our NSW connection and Issy is someone we truly want to thrive as a Flame.”
“Issy is a high-work rate player, an excellent defender, and a capable three-point shooter. She’s a great teammate and I’m confident she’ll have an excellent WNBL career.”
Set for the WNBL stage
Morgan’s signing continues the Flames’ commitment to elevating NSW talent into the national league, while also adding a versatile guard who can impact the game on both ends of the floor.
Her arrival further strengthens a roster built on a mix of international experience, homegrown talent, and emerging stars ready to make their mark in WNBL26.
