The Sydney Flames have announced Ruby Perkins has signed on as the club’s amateur development player for WNBL26.

At just 17 years old, the 5’8” guard has already made her mark at both the domestic and international level. Perkins starred for the Northern Suburbs Bears in NBL1 East under coach Renae Garlepp and represented Australia at the FIBA U19 World Cup earlier this year.

For Perkins, pulling on the Flames jersey is the culmination of years of ambition.

“It’s a dream come true,” she says.

“I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can from the players around me, soaking everything up, and continuing to grow.”

Molloy back Perkins' potential

Flames Head Coach Guy Molloy said Perkins’ speed, athleticism, and potential make her a standout addition.

“Ruby was a standout performer this year for both the Gems under 19 national team and the North Bears for coach Renae Garlepp at the NBL1 level.

“She is college-bound, and we were thrilled to offer her our one amateur position available. Ruby’s speed and athleticism is a delight to see, and we think she will impress in Flames colours.”

One to watch

Born 21 November 2007, Perkins represents the next wave of NSW talent making the leap into the WNBL. With her blend of athleticism, defensive energy, and international experience, she is primed to develop further in a professional environment.

Her signing highlights the Flames’ commitment to fostering the future of Australian basketball and providing opportunities for the country’s brightest young players.
