The Sydney Flames are excited to unveil they'll be hosting a three-day regional tour in Bathurst next month , made possible by the club's principal partner, Harvey Norman, and supporting partner, AAMI.
The three-day tour will run from Thursday, September 18, to Saturday, September 20.
Hoops Capital executive director Matthew Denholm is thrilled to further strengthen the club's connection to regional NSW and introduce the team to the talented players and fans of the Central West.
"We're proud of how our regional roadshow continues to build each year, giving our fans the opportunity to meet and interact with their on-court heroes," said Denholm, whose club's roadshows have helped the participation rates in Newcastle increase from close to 2,300 in 2023 to 2,615 this year.
"At Hoops Capital, we're committed to growing basketball across the wider NSW community, and this amazing initiative gives us the perfect platform to connect grassroots hoops with elite basketball."
Alongside Harvey Norman, the first part of the exciting tour will see the Flames hold a one-hour skills clinic with the Central West's up-and-coming hoopers (aged from 11-17) at the Bathurst Basketball Stadium.
This will be followed by a meet and greet with the Flames players and coaches.
Then on Friday, the Flames will be holding two one-hour clinics in the afternoon at two local Bathurst schools.
The tour will wrap up with a Flames appearance at the Bathurst Harvey Norman store, from 10am to 11am, which will include signings, photo opportunities and more.
Harvey Norman CEO Katie Page is delighted to continue the program to expand and bring elite basketball to Central West NSW.
"We saw the impact of the Flames’ roadshows in Newcastle,” Page said.
“The emerging local talent is inspired by elite-level skill clinics, and the fans can meet their sporting heroes in person.
“It just takes the passion for the game to a different level.
“Like Newcastle, we are certain it will increase participation and the 506 young females who currently play basketball in the Bathurst region will see first-hand that the pathways to the elite level exist for them.”
"Community engagement like this is why Harvey Norman is involved in sport, for us, every Australian town and region could be home to a future Sydney Flame."
