Hoops Capital today announced that Guy Molloy will step down as Head Coach of the Sydney Flames after three years with the Club and will move into an advisory role with the Club.
Co-owner of Hoops Capital, Luc Longley, said “Guy has made an incredible contribution to our Club and culture over the last three years. He is a respected coach who has made a significant impact on basketball in Australia, celebrating a milestone 350 WNBL games this year.”
Molloy’s coaching career started in 1989 with the Canberra Capitals before moving west to join the Perth Breakers. He was a part of rebuilding the Melbourne Boomers and achieving a championship in his ninth campaign with the club. Molloy moved across the ditch taking on the Tall Ferns national coach before joining the Sydney Flames for the 23/24 season. Last year, he led the Flames to the semifinals for the first time in seven years.
Molloy said on his decision, “It’s been a challenging season, and after a great deal of reflection, I’ve decided to step down from my position with the team. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together over the past three years, and I’m deeply grateful for the relationships and experiences we’ve shared.”
“While I won’t be leading from the same seat, I’ll be moving into an advisory role to support a smooth transition and continue contributing in any way I can. I wish the players nothing but the very best for what’s ahead.”
